Article marketing can be a great way to get visitors and potential customers to your websites. However, the one thing you need to be careful of is writing ineffective articles that will bore your visitors and lower your conversion rates. Most people cannot write good, effective articles on their own – that’s nothing unusual.
The fact is that the vast majority of people need to put more effort into writing in order to be successful. But it’s no great secret, and it is quite feasible to learn effective article writing skills. Armed with the right information and a little bit of effort, you could well discover that you are in fact a very good writer, and then article marketing will be something that you can use very effectively.
First of all, always keep in mind that online readers have fairly short attention spans. This means that most of them are not going to sit around reading a lengthy article. In general, your articles need not be short and punchy with an attention grabbing headline and not great works of literary length. Most articles (used for article marketing) are around three hundred to five hundred words in length. If you exceed that limit, generally, readers will lose interest, unless it’s something extremely good or of interest to them.
Simple writing will usually win the day. Don’t use complex words to show off your vocabulary or overly long sentences as this may well alienate your readers – keep your writing style simple and conversational with just a reasonable degree of formality. Do try and ensure that your writing is grammatically correct and devoid of spelling errors. These days with most of the word processors around it is quite straightforward to run a check on both of these aspects.
You should however, try to write in a language and style that your “niche” audience will understand. This is a smart approach to building up your readership or visitor numbers, especially if you are trying to build a reputation or authority in a particular field or “niche”. If you don’t follow this approach you could well lose or fail to attract a lot of readers, and your campaign will not do as well.
Also bear in mind that it isn’t an academic paper or thesis, so keep your paragraphs shorter. We were probably all taught to develop each major idea in a separate paragraph – well that is something you can forget about here. As mentioned previously, internet audiences have short attention spans, and they want to read quickly or be able to skim. So using shorter paragraphs will help them accomplish this goal.
Try and keep your paragraphs to a two or three sentences only with good line breaks between paragraphs providing plenty of white space so that online readers can quickly skim and scan. Don’t indent your paragraphs as this only makes skimming more difficult and always remember: white space is your friend! Short, sharp paragraphs with plenty of white space in between makes it easy for your readers to quickly skim and scan your articles.
Most people especially newbies, don’t have the means to outsource their article writing, but it’s really not that hard to learn article writing on a basic level – anyone can do that. Just remember that you are not trying to write a literary classic, you just want to write a short, well laid out (spaced) interesting and informative article. If you can grasp this basic skill you can really boost your online presence.
