One of the single most effective ways of marketing on the internet these days is by using a Squeeze Page. What is a squeeze page you ask? Well in simple terms a squeeze page is a a single web page designed with the purpose of capturing a visitors contact information for the purpose of further follow-up marketing. These pages are usually quite simple, fit above the fold (ie. no scrolling required) and tend not to have any exit hyperlinks.
Quality squeeze pages used to use success stories or testimonials that the visitors could relate to, hoping to entice them to provide their details. The pages also make use of catchy sales copy and keyword rich text placed with SEO (search engine optimization) in mind, together with the clever psychological use of colour. However, these days, most of the advanced marketers use video on their squeeze page.
Most internet marketers now borrow the copywriting techniques that have been used successfully for many years in offline direct response marketing. These techniques include the use of a dominant. catchy, headline, bullets, teaser copy, deadlines, testimonials, scarcity, and et.. The marketers will usually offer visitors some incentive for providing their contact information, eg. free downloads, videos, courses and etc..
As a general rule, the best Squeeze Page designs keep the content to a minimum, so as not to distract the visitor from the main goal of the page, which is to provide their email address. Navigation and hyperlinks are almost always absent from typical squeeze pages to inhibit the visitor from “clicking away” from the page. The absence of links is helps to focus the visitors’ attention on the one choice available: register for the email list.
Savvy internet marketers have long known that convincing a visitor to sign up for an email list will provide them with an opportunity to develop a relationship with the visitor and subsequently offer that visitor multiple sales messages over an extended period of time, and possibly even cross-sell other related products.
Squeeze Pages are usually used in conjunction with an email autoresponder to automate the whole process. After signing up, the visitor is usually re-directed to a web page notifying them that they will soon receive an email and that they will need to click on a link within that email to confirm their desire to receive the information promised. This process is referred to as double-optin, and has proven to be an very effective method to increase the number of opt-ins on Squeeze Pages. Once the visitor confirms their email address and wish to receive more information, the autoresponder is usually set up to automatically send an email containing the first piece of information, an immediate download link to get information, or a redirection to a particular web page. The autoresponder is also set up to send out a timed series of follow-up emails thereafter.
The more successful internet marketers have thousands if not hundreds of thousands of subscribers to their mailing lists – there is a very good reason why you hear the old adage “the money is in the list” – especially for a targeted list.
